Africanized Honey Bee
What percentage of American honey bees are now Africanized?

There is a Mexican thistle outside my window here in Arizona that is covered with dozens of honey bees. What are the chances that they're Africanized? Is there any hope that the Africanization will ever be reversed? Or are all bees destined to be killer bees?

First off, it does not sound like honeybees, honeybees, especially africanized bees have a hive in the thousands just for reference, (1 nucleus colony * start up bee colony is roughly 10 thousand bees). I would go onto google images and search a swarm of honey bees and see if that is similar to what is on your thistle. Next as I say that you cannot definitively rule out that that isn't africanized honeybees, (could just be survivors of a hive that got destroyed). Given where you live there is a high probability of them being africanized. If you don't want them in your yard, I would look online see if there are any bee keepers that will come out and take away the hive (* they will either take the hive or spray them down and kill them), if you just want them gone period, I would call a local exterminator and let them handle this (warn them that the bees may be africanized). Also I would not approach the colony one way bees detect an threat is via carbon dioxide levels (your breath) and this sense is heightened in africanized bees.
As for your other questions, yes there is hope that africanization is being reversed, south of the border in Mexico there are expirements that are proving that africanized bees through breeding techniques are making gentler bees. Also africanized bees cannot survive easily due to their size and aggressiveness north of a certain point because winters will kill the colony.
